Any seafarer serving in a position as specified on the crew certificate must be in possession of a valid certificate of competence. To be eligible for a certificate of competence, a seafarer must demonstrate knowledge and experience (sailing time) and have completed certain training and courses.
An application for a certificate of competence can only be submitted via the Kiwa Register application portal. In the portal, you can also view the status of your request:

Within 7 to 9 working days after your application is complete and paid, your certificate of competency will be sent.
The rate for the certificate of competency is set by the government in the Transport Sectors Rates Regulations (Dutch) and includes 21% VAT. A certificate of competency costs €175,45.

You can pay directly online via iDEAL and credit card (MasterCard or VISA). You can also pay via bank transfer afterwards after receiving your invoice. An application will always only be processed when it is complete and paid.
